Table lamps can be a great way to add interest to your home, both providing lighting as well as beauty. It can be easy to overdo it though, by choosing lamps that are over elaborate or not fit for their purpose.
- Less can be more: A thing of beauty doesn't have to be a thing which screams for attention. Likewise, if you choose one busy lamp you love then six busy lamps is not six times better. Table lamps are usually chosen for their decorative value, and can be used to light up ornaments or to provide interest on side table. While it is important to choose a style you love, make sure that it fits in with your décor and looks appropriate to the room.
- Decorative lamps should stand alone: If you've chosen a statement lamp, then show it off! Don't put it on a table with twenty other of your bits and pieces, or hide it next to the TV. It will just end up looking stupid. Instead, display it proudly, perhaps as a focal point in a corner of a room, or standing proudly on a bare table. Let the lamp do the work.
- Choose a pair: If you love a certain style of lamp, then consider buying a pair. Not only is it pleasing to the eye, but it also looks much more stylish than several mismatched lamps. Why not try placing a lamp at either end of a mantelpiece, instead of using candles?
- But don't be afraid to experiment: If your style is more eclectic, then try lamps in contrasting styles. A simple white shaded lamp can look stylish when contrasted with a stained glass Tiffany lamp across the room. Remember to keep the colors complimenting rather than clashing though, if you want to avoid a headache!
- Have fun: Table lamps are beautifully portable, so if you decide that two lamps just don't fit in the same room, simply move one to a better location.
